Friends,
As you may have heard, there was a shooting early this morning on Iowa City's pedestrian mall, near campus. Five people were injured, including 3 University of Iowa students. We are grieved to learn of this act of violence and the suffering it has caused all those affected. Currently, one of the victims is in critical condition. We invite you to join us in prayer for the victims, their families, and for those who committed this act of violence, that the Holy Spirit would move upon them, bringing them to repentance and turning themselves in. God has placed a desire in us to see his justice and we are praying that we would witness it in this tragic situation. In this unfortunate circumstance, we mourn and lament, and yet, are still able to rejoice in knowing, like David in Psalm 34, that "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." Thank you for joining us, and many others in prayer.
